Bizenjo offers mediation to end Nawaz-Nisar rift

ISLAMABAD:  Federal Minister for Maritime and Balochistan National Party (BNP) leader Mir Hasil Bizenjo has offered to play a role of mediator to end misunderstandings between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

In an interview with the news agency on Thursday, he was optimistic that he could play an imperative role in removing misconceptions between party chief Nawaz Sharif and senior leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

Bizenjo said that after the disqualification of Nawaz by the five-member bench of the Supreme Court, he recommended him to travel to Lahore through GT Road which strengthened his position. But Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar were concerned over security issues and other problems while travelling to Lahore via GT Road, he added.

The minister expressed ignorance about the meeting of the party leaders held at Murree. However, he said that he was present in the meeting held in connection at Punjab House which was also attended by senior journalist Mujeebur Rehman Shami and others.

Bizenjo said that when he reached Punjab House, the issue that which route Nawaz Sharif should adopt for travelling to Lahore was under discussion and the party chief was taking the suggestion of the participants in this connection.

The BNP leader said that when his suggestion in the issue was sought, he stated that the route which can serve as an illustration of the political power of the party should be adopted as it did in 1997 while travelling for the inauguration of Lahore-Islamabad motorway and maximum people can attend the rally.

Giving his suggestion, the AJK prime minister said that people of the state have left through motorway to welcome their leader, therefore, he (Nawaz) should also adopt the same route he (AJK PM) was asked to advise the supporters to wait for the final decision.

Later, through mutual understanding, it was decided that Nawaz Sharif will travel to Lahore through GT Road instead of the motorway. Nawaz Sharif directed to inform Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar about the decision. Soon, Chaudhry Nisar also reached the scene and was informed the decision and directed to take Shehbaz Sharif into confidence regarding the decision.

Chaudhry Nisar through telephone call informed CM Shehbaz about the decision but expressed concerns saying that there were security and road jam issues while travelling on GT Road.
