Transgender community moves PHC for transgender-friendly elections: report

PESHAWAR: The transgender community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday moved the Peshawar High Court (PHC) in a bid to make the electrical process transgender-friendly, as reported by a local English daily.

This step taken by the community is to ensure that they participate fully as voters and candidates in the upcoming general election in 2018.

Farzana Jan, President TransAction Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and General Secretary Arzu through their lawyer Gul Rehman Mohmand, filed this petition.

The Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan and Provincial Election Commissioner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were made parties to the petition.

Through a writ petition, the transgender community requested the high court to direct the Election Commission of Pakistan to ensure that the upcoming electrical process was friendly to the transgender community.
