ISLAMABAD: The search committee constituted by the prime minister for the selection of a new Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman has agreed to form Terms of References (ToR’s) and publish an advertisement for the post.

Sources on Wednesday confirmed that the search committee’s first meeting was held here at the Education Ministry under the chairmanship of Convener Babar Ali to discuss the new HEC chief’s appointment.

The search committee has also formed the code of conducts for the merit-based appointment of a new chairman while it has been agreed that the advertisement in this regard would be published within the current week.

The sources shared the details of an advertisement in which the minimum compulsory qualification for the post of HEC chairman is postgraduate, and further added that around 20 years of experience in the field of higher education would also be compulsory.

“Candidates with a PhD qualification will be given preference,” said the sources.
“Civil society members, professionals, and educationists will be able to nominate any eligible person,” they explained.

According to the advertisement pattern, every candidate will have to write an essay consisting of at least two thousand words in which they are to share their suggestions for the promotion and development of the higher education sector and their abilities to run HEC.
