KARACHI: Karachi police on Wednesday arrested a man for reportedly wounding his aunt and murdering her husband in an apparent ‘honour killing’ incident in the Manghopir area of the city.
Manghpoir Station House Officer (SHO) Haji Sanaullah told a local newspaper that “the couple — Rozi Khan and Zainab — had entered a free will marriage in Balochistan last year and moved to Karachi where they had rented a house in Wandi Sharif Goth, Manghopir. Several members of Balochistan’s Marri tribe also live in the area”.
Even though the marriage was opposed by a number of their relatives, the girl’s mother and brother had no qualms about it.
“The culprit on Tuesday arrived at the couple’s house with five other accomplices and shot the husband, what died instantly due to a head shot.
However, the aunt of the culprit got lucky as the gun malfunctioned when he tried to shoot her. However, the culprit attacked her with sticks and a knife, leaving her injured. She is currently being treated at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Police arrested the suspect from a private hospital where he was undergoing a treatment following the wounds inflicted on him by Zainab while resisting the assault.
Six people, including Zainab’s nephew, have been nominated in the first information report (FIR) lodged at the Manghopir police station with Rozi’s brother, Mangal Khan, as the complainant.
The primary suspect’s friend who accompanied him to the hospital is also being treated as a suspect; however, he has not been nominated in the FIR.
