ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday served a notice to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and sought a reply over its proceedings under the Election Act 2017.
The hearing of the case was held in the court of Justice Aamir Farooq. During the hearing, Advocate Chaudhry Hamid adopted the that ECP had annulled the registration of political parties without hearing their point of view first.
He said that ECP under the Elections Act had not fulfilled the legal requirements while de-notifying the political parties.
Pakistan Democratic Front counsel Advocate Hafiz Sufyan presented his stance and said that the court may nullify ECP’s notification issued on January 12, while adding that ECP had unconstitutionally cancelled the registration of political parties.
He further said that under the present amendment, it was mandatory for every registered party to submit Rs 0.2 million and CNIC copies of 2,000 party members. Later the court adjourned the hearing of the case for one week.
