ISLAMABAD: The Human Rights Watch (HRW) has expressed concern over the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2017, as reported by a local newspaper.
The bill was passed by the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights. The HRW has also stated that these errors should be rectified as early as possible.
According to a letter written by the HRW Asia Division Executive Director Brad Adams, the definition of intersex and transgender should be revisited and the name of the bill be reconsidered.
The letter states: “The draft bill currently under your consideration is an important subsequent step to provide better legal protection for Pakistani transgenders. However it contains some significant flaws. Human Rights Watch recommends you address those urgently to improve the law.”
