Anti-polio drive continues in full swing in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Health Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry said that the five-day anti-polio campaign, which began in all tehsils and towns of Rawalpindi district, continued in full swing for the second day on Wednesday.

Under the drive, he said, over 280,000 children have so far been administered the polio vaccine while the set target for administering polio drops to 840,000 children would be achieved till February 17.

Sohail also informed that during the campaign, 2,739 polio teams including 2,333 mobile teams, 287 fixed points, 119 transit points, 221 union council medical officers and 496 area in charges were operating in the district to complete the task of vaccination. He added that polio is a national issue and it is the responsibility of all to play an effective role to make the country polio-free.

He said that with the coordinated efforts of government and World Health Organisation (WHO), polio workers have been trained to accomplish the set target of vaccinating 840,000 children below five years of age. He urged the citizens, particularly parents, to come forward and play their role for the elimination of the crippling disease from society.

“The parents should cooperate with special teams so that the set target could be achieved,” Sohail added.
