KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday finally approved the 15 percent increment in salaries of 150,000 employees of the Local Government (LG) department, Pakistan Today has learnt.

According to the sources, more than 150,000 have been demanding the implementation on the announcement of 15 percent raise in their basic salaries since eight months, however, the lethargic attitude of the Sindh bureaucracy and the pending summaries at the chief minister house had delayed the implementation.

The chief minister had himself announced the increment in the salaries of the LG employees while presenting the budget for the Fiscal Year 2017-18 in Sindh Assembly. However, the finance department’s response was not quick enough thereby causing the delay.

In this regard, the LG department has forwarded letter No. RO (LG)/MISC/4(55)/2017 to the finance secretary requesting enhancement of a portion of salaries of employees of Local Councils, a copy of which is exclusively available with Pakistan Today.

“I am directed to refer your letter No FD.SO(LF-I)Misc/175/2015-16, dated February 7, 2018, on the subject and to state that verified information provided by the Karachi Local Fund Audit director regarding 15 percent enhancement of a portion of salaries of employees of Sindh Local Councils and the same is endorsed by this department.

However, the figures may be verified from the summary dated November 22, 2017, duly approved by the
Sindh chief minister,” the letter read.

“Accordingly, you are requested to please release enhanced 15 percent OZT share of Local Councils on account of salaries of employees of Sindh Local Councils as approved by the chief minister Sindh,” the letter concluded.
