ISLAMABAD: National Highway Authority (NHA) on Tuesday said that the new airport facility will be inaugurated soon.
In a statement, the authority clarified that the work on Metro Bus project was initiated in May 2017. For connectivity with the new airport, two access roads via Thallian Interchange and GT Road Interchange were undertaken by NHA since 2016. The road from Thalian Interchange to the airport has been completed since August 2017, whereas the road from GT Road Interchange to the airport was planned for completion by December 2017.
The statement further said that same was, however, re-scheduled to complete in February 2018 owing to an unexpected spell of heavy rains during July and August that virtually halted all construction activity for nearly two months. Following the completion of access roads this month, the new airport facility may be made functional as and when decided by authorities concerned, it added.
The remaining work on Metro Bus project, including allied structures, are scheduled to complete by May 2018.
