Says nation would never forget sacrifices of those who embraced martyrdom in line of duty
LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Punjab Capt (r) Arif Nawaz Khan on Tuesday said that the officers and officials who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty were frontline soldiers and honourable assets of the Punjab police.
Their sacrifice, he said, proves that Punjab police is working diligently to provide security to the people and their properties and that it will never step back from exemplifying bravery and sacrifices in the future as well.
Arif expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the Charing Cross blast a year ago.
He further said that the sacrifices made by DIG Captain Ahmed Mubeen Shaheed, Zahid Mehmood Gondal Shaheed, Asmat Ullah Shaheed, Ameen Shaheed and by other martyrs of the Mall Road blast uplifted the morale of the whole force and all the officers are now performing their duties with more enthusiasm and passion.
Punjab IGP also said that February 13 was the day of renewal of commitment with the brave martyrs of Lahore, that the police will take forward the mission of the martyrs and fulfil its duties in all possible circumstances.
“I feel proud to be a commander of the force that has the blood of 1400 martyrs in its foundation,” he said.
Lahore CCPO Capt (r) Muhammad Ameen Wains, Additional IG CTD Rai Muhammad Tahir, DIG investigation Lahore Sultan Ahmed Chaudhary, lahore DIG operations Dr Haider Ashraf, SSP administration Rana Ayaz Saleem, Lahore CTO Rai Ejaz Ahmed, SSP operations Muntazir Mehdi and other officers of the Lahore police were present in the ceremony along with prominent personalities from different walks of life including religious scholar Moulana Raghib Naeemi, singer Jawad Ahmed, Civil Society Network President Abdullah Malik, columnist Toufeeq Butt, Habib Akram, Wasif Nagi, Sajjad Pir Zada, Zameer Afaqi, Hafiz Zuhaib Tayyab, mother of Capt Ahmed Mubeen Shaheed, fathers of the martyred constables Ghulam Murtaza and Ali Raza and families of other martyrs.
CCPO Lahore Capt (r) Muhammad Ameen Wains while addressing the ceremony said that each and every soldier of Lahore police was ready to serve the nation till the last drop of his blood. He said that history was a witness to the fact that soldiers of the Punjab police received bullets on their chests and did not hesitate while fighting against the terrorists and anti-social elements. He further said that the Police service was not just a job, and the force was resolved for the completion of its mission to eradicate anti-peace elements.
As many as 14 people including two senior police officials DIG Capt (r) Ahmed Mubeen and SSP Zahid Mehmood Gondal were killed in the suicide attack on Feb 13, 2017, at Lahore’s Charing Cross while performing their duties.
CM PAYS TRIBUTE TO MARTYRS:
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that martyrdom of DIG Traffic Cap (r) Ahmad Mubeen, SSP Zahid Gondal and other police officers, was an irreparable loss for the country and their blood would not go in vain.
In his message on the first death anniversary of the martyrs of the Charing Cross blast, the chief minister said that the nation would never forget the sacrifices of such brave and dutiful officers who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty.
He paid tributes to the sacrifices and courage of Cap (r) Ahmad Mubeen, SSP Zahid Gondal and other police officers, and said that they had sacrificed their lives for a greater cause. The martyrs, he said, were the nation’s heroes and peace had been restored in the country due to their sacrifices.
The martyrs of the Charing Cross will always remain alive in our hearts and the nation pays tribute to the brave police officers and all those who laid down their lives, concluded the chief minister.
