Asma’s demise: Sindh announces day of mourning on Feb 13

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday urged the federal government to give a state funeral to Asma Jahangir to honour her for providing selfless services to the nation over the decades.

In a letter to Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the chief minister said, “With the passing of human rights activist and lawyer Asma Jahangir, Pakistan has lost a national treasure. I am writing to you to consider giving Asma Jahangir a state funeral and honouring her decades of selfless services to the nation.”

The chief minister also said that in order to honour Jahangir, the Sindh government had announced a day of mourning. I would like permission to fly the national flag at half-mast on February 13, 2018 (the day of her funeral).”

The letter was sent via fax to the PM Secretariat and also dispatched through courier.
