ISLAMABAD: A senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and Leader of the House in Senate, Raja Zafarul Haq, has categorically stated that those opposing Maryam Nawaz to head the party must choose any other way.
“We have no objection if Maryam Nawaz comes forward and reins in the party,” he said in an interview with the news agency. He justified that criticism on judiciary’s verdict was right of Nawaz Sharif.
The PML-N leader said that the apex court gave its verdict against Nawaz Sharif. “We have nothing left behind except contacting the masses, which is a big court,” he added. He further said that PML-N has no personal enmity with the judges.
Raja Zafarul Haq said that the role of the establishment could not be ruled out in politics of Pakistan. He added that some decisions are made with mutual consultations, which are in the national interest.
He went on to say that establishment is a part of Pakistan, adding that time has proved that the stance of Faizabad sit-in was correct and the resignation of law minister was also correct. He added that the Constitution gives authority to Kashmiris over what would be the terms and conditions for Kashmiris to live with Pakistan.
Talking about the inherited politics in Pakistan, he asked, “What is the eligibility to award Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) ticket to Jahangir Tareen’s son?” He said that even the name of Tareen’s son was unheard of, adding that the eligibility criterion was “only being a son of Jahangir Tareen”.
Raja Zafarul Haq observed that the level of PTI was decreasing gradually, saying that it [PTI] will not be visible in the politics of Pakistan in future. He further added that the future of Pakistan was linked with the democracy and urged the political parties to promote democracy in their ranks.
The senior PML-N leader also rejected the impression of differences in PML-N. He informed that all the party leaders were present in the parliamentary party meeting except Chaudhry Nisar.
He went on to say that Senate tickets were issued with mutual consultations, adding that some people had reservations for issuing Senate tickets, which were resolved amicably.
When asked whether he opposed awarding Senate ticket to Mushahid Hussain Syed, he said that Mushahid is an educated person and he has no differences with him. He added that next general elections would be held on time.
Raja Zafarul Haq also informed that he was a senior party leader and has the right to become Senate chairman, adding that party leader Nawaz Sharif’s decision will be accepted in this regard. He also termed the participation of religious parties a good omen in the politics of Pakistan.
