Man kills sister for ‘honour’ after local jury condemns her to death

SUKKUR: A 19-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead by her brother ‘in the name of honour’ after a panchayat in Sukkur condemned her to death.

Citing initial reports, Sukkur SSP [Senior Superintendent Police] Amjad Shaikh, told reporters on Saturday that a local court in Pano Akil area of Sukkur district after declaring the victim a “Kari” had condemned her to death.

Subsequently, the victim’s brother gunned her down on February 8, and attempted to portray the murder as a suicide case, he said. The police, however, investigated and found out that she was murdered.

Later, the police registered a murder case and apprehended the accused brother, his father and two local landlords who were allegedly a part of the local jury.

The Sukkur SSP said that all the accused have confessed to their involvement to the crime and added that another suspected landlord was still on a run.
