PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday claimed that the Billion Tree Tsunami Afforestation Programme has been completed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wherein 1.12 billion trees were planted over a period of three years.

Imran’s statement comes on the heels of media reports which stated that the official documents of the KP government failed to correspond with the claims made by the PTI chief.

In a briefing to the journalists on the project, the PTI chief rubbished the media reports, saying that propaganda is being used to defame the forestry project.

It is pertinent to mention that in August, an investigation within the government departments revealed that 145 officers of the KP forest division were found involved in corruption.

Legal action was taken against those 145 officers, whereas, 44 officials were forcefully retired due to misappropriation of funds and other reasons regarding the project.

The PTI-led KP government often comes under fire in the mainstream media pertaining to the said forestation project, which aims to turn around deforestation and increase the province’s forested area by at least two per cent.

  1. I am totally agree with IK statement or claim, if you will like to see the impact pass through the Kalil pass from Buner to Swat. That place is a beautiful example , especially when you see the young plants survival due to the protection given by the Project, a penny saved is a penny earned, a tree protected is as a tree planted( even better than a tree planted).
