CTD arrests facilitator in Peshawar agricultural directorate attack case

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pukhtunkhawa (KP) Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday arrested an alleged ‘facilitator’ of a terror attack on the Directorate of Agriculture Extension in Peshawar, which left as many as nine people martyred and 30 injured in December last year.

The suspect, identified as one Muhammad Yasir belongs to the Bajaur Agency and had reportedly facilitated terrorists in the attack. The alleged terrorist has been transferred to an undisclosed location and is being further interrogated.

On December 2, 2017, three burqa-clad heavily-armed Taliban militants, who arrived on an autorickshaw, attacked the students’ hostel of the Directorate of Agriculture Extension on the University Road in the city, capital of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. The institute was closed for the Eid-e-Milad holiday at the time, but about 70 students were present in the hostel.

According to Police chief of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Salahuddin Mehsud, the attack claimed by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan left six students, a security guard and five civilians dead, and 32 others injured.

He said the terrorists were killed by security forces after a gunfight which lasted for an hour.
