- Security expert in Karachi to assess security situation for PSL final
LAHORE: Popular Sufi singer Abida Parveen and American pop star Jason Derulo will perform at the glittering opening ceremony of the third edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL), said a Pakistan Cricket Board statement on Saturday.
However, Abida Parveen headlines the glitzy opening ceremony that will kick off the PSL in Dubai on February 22, confirmed a Pakistan Cricket Board statement on Saturday, adding that the ceremony will be followed by the opening match between defending Peshawar Zalmi and new entrants Multan Sultans.
Local heart-throbs Ali Zafar and Shehzad Roy will also be enthralling fans at the ceremony, said a press release pertaining to the artists’ line-up at the ceremony.
An impressive display of fireworks will accompany the entertainment acts of the ceremony that will commence at 8pm PST at the Dubai International Stadium.
A total of 34 matches will be played across different venues in Dubai, Sharjah and Lahore. The final is to be held in Karachi on March 25, according to the PSL schedule.
During the season, all teams will play against each other twice before the top four teams qualify for the play-off stage. Last year, the PSL Season 2 final was held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium amid tight security.
KARACHI UNDER INSPECTION FOR PSL FINAL:
A security consultant tasked by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA) and various international cricket boards, has also arrived in Karachi to review security arrangements in the city for proposed final match of the PSL.
Reg Dickason of Eastern Star International, a security firm that gives advice to the ICC, FICA and various boards, was received in Karachi by the lower-tier PCB officials.
Dickason was roped in by the PCB in an attempt to regain the international community’s confidence in security arrangements in Pakistan. He was also involved in security arrangements for World XI team’s recent visit to Lahore.
