NAB summons Nawaz but he ain’t going

ISLAMABAD: The National Account Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi has summoned former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday to record his statement in the Al Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment cases; however, Nawaz has refused to appear before the accountability watchdog.

According to sources, Nawaz said that the matter is sub judice, adding that he is answerable to the court only.

Sources informed Pakistan Today that the NAB has also sent a notice to the ex-premier in this regard as the bureau is likely to file supplementary references against him in the next week.

The sources further said that the NAB has also received the script of an interview of Hussain Nawaz taken by Hamid Mir, a private TV anchor, which will be made part of the interim references.

Nawaz and his family are facing corruption references filed by the anti-graft bureau in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 judgment in the Panama Papers case.

Nawaz and his two sons, Hussain and Hasan, are nominated in all three references whereas Maryam and Safdar are only accused in one.
