Govt promulgated several laws to ensure rights of women: minister

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information & Culture and Excise and Taxation Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman on Friday said that the provincial government has promulgated a number of laws in order to ensure the rights and honour of women in the province.

Resultantly, the representation of women is rising in every walk of life including sports, education and job opportunities. The promotion of sports and other extracurricular activities has boosted up the morale and confidence of women so as to excel in the practical life.

The minister expressed these views while addressing the annual sports day function held at the Kinnaird College for Women. Kinnaird College Principal Dr Rukhsana David along with a number of celebrities and sports legends was also present on the occasion.

Mujtaba distributed prizes among the achievers including students and faculty members. The faculty members had also taken part in the games enthusiastically and won the tug of war against the students.

The minister too participated in the game of musical chairs.

Addressing the concluding session, Mujtaba said that Kinnaird College enjoys the status of such an institution that has introduced a number of national and international woman players for our national hockey and cricket teams. For this, the credit goes to the college’s administration that has always valued the importance of sports and provided the students with all the needed facilities.

He said the Punjab government is taking every possible step against all kinds of discrimination against women because no nation can move towards development without an effective participation of women. The Punjab chief minister, he said, has upheld merit in every department, which has resulted in the availability of equal opportunities to the children of poor and the deserving ones, he added.

The function was also addressed by the KCW Principal Dr Rukhsana David.
