- Problems and solutions
Drugs
Our youth is gradually trapping themselves in the net of narcotics. They consume them to get artificial relief from miseries of life without knowing the fact that drugs are taking them away from their capabilities and are slowing pushing them towards death. In our country, youth have easy access to drugs. A major proportion of youth takes drugs. They find no offense in smoking. This smoking has become a fashion for them. There is a need to train them what moral values are. They are slowly drifting away from our cultural norms and traditions.
Suicide
The saddest thing is seeing youth committing suicide. Patience is gradually decreasing in the youth, and again the causes are unemployment, poverty, political crisis and terrorism in our country. People in our country have become more frustrated and spit out their frustration on each other. Depression is becoming common in youth; they find it hard to achieve their goals. Pressure from parents and inflexible system of the family doesn’t allow youth to make their own decisions. Generally, the parents want their children to become either doctors or engineers because these are the professions society likes the most. Sometimes children have interest in another field. But they are not permitted by parents to opt for their areas of interest. They can’t fulfil their dreams and then run away from parents and their responsibilities. They become non-serious and show indifference.
Role of media
The type of television shows that the youth watches directly impacts their minds and moulds their personality. The biggest irony is the invasion of the western culture in our country through media. They love western culture more and follow its footsteps. Consequently, family ties are getting disrupted. They want to live all alone in their rooms and don’t want family members to interfere in their lives.
The communication gap between parents and children also misleads the youth. Children are growing in a very strict environment and fail to share important issues with their families
English-Urdu medium
The difference in medium also puts a negative impact on their mind. In our country education is divided into two segments. One is the English medium education, and the other is the Urdu medium. Those who study in the government institutions and those who study in private institutions have different thinking. Students studying in Urdu medium feel inferiority complex when they come across students with English medium background.
Lack of appreciation
The youth of Pakistan is full of talent. But the government of Pakistan doesn’t facilitate them well. Arfa Kareem was given much appreciation in the USA as compared to Pakistan. Unless the talent of youth is appreciated, they will not work in an effective way. Teachers in educational institutions need to acknowledge students more and more. They need to stop degrading them and focus more on appreciation.
Shortage of playgrounds
The youth should be given more opportunities to entertain themselves. In Pakistan, there are no as such eminent grounds for playing sports. No proper attention is given towards cleanliness of grounds. In several places, grounds have become a storage of waste material. As a result, youth seek opportunities of entertainment in video games, drinking, gambling, drugs, etc. All these activities are not good for their health. Such activities divert attention from their basic goals. As a consequence, the country fails to produce responsible citizens.
Communication gap
The communication gap between parents and children also misleads the youth. Children are growing in a very strict environment and fail to share important issues with their families. They ultimately get caught in the bad company of friends. They misguide them and children start considering parents their enemies.
Solutions
- The government needs to start scholarship programs for really needy people.
- Media needs to stop showing negative things since that creates a harmful impact on young minds.
- Teachers should keep a keen eye on their student’s activities since nowadays more educated students are involved in terrorism.
- Parents need to develop a friendly environment in their homes so that their children can easily discuss their problems with them.
- The government needs to construct more playgrounds for youth so that instead of wasting their time on other bad activities, they can perform healthy activities in playgrounds.
- The government should ensure an equal standard of education in all institutions whether government or private so that no one feels a sense of inferiority.
- More opportunities should be given to youth to utilise their skills.
- Unskilled youth that is poor should be fully supported by the government so that they can learn valuable skills and make their name in the society.
- Justice should be ensured in every department of Pakistan so that all candidates be selected on merit for a particular job.
- Salaries of employed people should be improved so that the youth instead of going abroad, live here in Pakistan.
- A course on morality should be taught to every student in their field where they learn about ethical values since morality is deteriorating day-by-day in or youth. Use of abusive language is becoming common in the youth. They need to be taught manners and respect for elders.
- The government needs to overcome the problem of load-shedding since many jobs are directly connected to it.
- The common usage of drugs and cigarettes should be kept in check. The government should put people behind bars who sell illicit drugs and pollute the mind of youth.
If you still think that nothing good can happen with our youth then let me tell you that John Keats said:
“Don’t be discouraged by a failure. It can be a positive experience. Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success, in as much as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true, and every fresh experience points out some form of error which we shall afterward carefully avoid.”
Remain Hopeful!
Why not teach them how to live a life acoording to Sunnah (SAWW)???
Isn’t it a solution to all the problems….and will be highly rewarded on the Day of Judgement.
