‘US decision to suspend security aid to Pakistan was ineffective’: report

WASHINGTON: Trump administration’s decision to suspend the United States (US) security assistance to Pakistan was not effective in persuading Islamabad to change its policies; the US State Department informed the Congress on Wednesday, reported a local English daily.

Both US officials and lawmakers acknowledged that Islamabad had a key role in bringing peace to Afghanistan.

The committee’s Republican Chairman, Senator Robert Corker, in his opening address, praised Trump administration’s decision to suspend US security aid to Pakistan

He said that the administration’s decision to draw a clear line with Pakistan was correct and that the security assistance should be discontinued for as long as Islamabad continues to shelter Haqqani, along with providing safe havens to other terrorist groups.
