KARACHI: Sindh Information, Labour and Transport Minister Nasir Shah on Thursday visited the Karachi Press Club and met the newly elected members of the governing body.
He was accompanied by Secretary Information Imran Atta Soomro, Secretary Transport Saeed Ahmed Awan, and Information Director Dr Muizzuddin Pirzada. He was welcomed by Press Club President Ahmed Khan Malik, Secretary Maqsood Ahmed and others. The Minister presented a bouquet to the president Maqsood Ahmed and Maqsood Ahmed respectively.
The minister remained with them for some time and congratulated the newly elected office bearers and members of the governing body.
The press club secretary introduced the office bearers and members of the governing body, informed the democratic process and trends in the press club elections. He said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has always supported the cause and struggle of journalist community to strengthen the journalists’ organizations, bodies and democratic trends in the journalism.
On the occasion, the Information Minister Nasir Shah reiterated the policy of PPP to safeguard the rights of the journalists and highlighted the positive role of media in the democratic process. He assured that their concerns would be dealt on a priority basis and remaining matters would be expedited with their support and cooperation.
Information Secretary Imran Atta Soomro also informed on the progress of provision of Health Cards to the journalists and said that the plan would be finalized in a couple of days in order to fulfill the commitment done by the PPP government.
The minister also assured that issues pertinent to residence, grant and other matters would also be resolved on priority, and in this regard, a joint meeting will be arranged with Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro very soon to settle the issues on priority.
Office bearers and members of the governing body also thanked the minister and the PPP government for the continued support to the journalist community and hoped that all issues would soon be resolved.
