ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday decided to challenge Ishaq Dar’s nomination papers as a PML-N candidate for the upcoming Senate elections in March.
The PTI is of the opinion that currently, there is a corruption case against Ishaq Dar which is being heard by the NAB court and a person embroiled in such a case should not be able to contest in any elections.
PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry will lead a legal team to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and challenge the nomination papers of the disgraced ex-Finance Minister.
Dar has submitted his nomination papers from Punjab where PML-N maintains a heavy majority in the provincial assembly.
PML-N is likely to attain 25 more seats in the Senate with elections in the upper house due on March 3. Other PML-N leaders chosen for Senate tickets include Mushahid Hussain, Nuzhat Sadiq and Kamran Michael. Mushahid Hussain, who had resigned as PML-Q Senator and joined PML-N, is likely to be a Senator from the ruling party this time.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s sister Sadia Abbasi will also contest Senate polls from PML-N ticket. Prime Minister Media Affairs Special Assistant Musadik Malik, London PML-N president Zubair Gul, Haroon Akhtar, ex-IGP of Sindh Rana Maqbool, Farooq Khan and Shaheen Butt are also the ruling party’s Senate candidates.
PML-N Communication Federal Minister MNA Hafeez will not contest in the 2018 general elections after being given the Senate ticket.
From Islamabad, son of ex-PM Muhammad Khan Junejo – Asad Junejo – will also be given a ticket apart from Mushahid Hussain. Spiritual healer Sabir Shah in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Mir Afzal Mandokhail in Balochistan will contest in the Senate polls too.
From Sindh Babar Sarfraz Jatoi has been picked by the ruling party as its Senate candidate.
