MULTAN: A team of Wildlife Department Multan arrested two people and recovered 300 lizards, locally called ‘Sanda’, from them.
A spokesman said on Thursday that a campaign was in progress on the orders of Wildlife and Parks Punjab DG Khalid Ayaz Khan for protection of wildlife.
A team, led by District Wildlife Officer Jamshed Qadir Bhatti, and Inspector Zulqarnain, reached the bus stand and arrested two people namely Aslam, a resident of Multan, and Maqsood Ahmad of Shorkot, while they were receiving bags containing the lizards.
A total of six bags were recovered and 300 lizards were found inside them. Their backbones had been broken to keep them in captivity. These reptiles had been brought to Multan from Bahawalnagar for preparation of oil that is used in medicines.
A judge imposed Rs 30,000 fine on both accused when they were produced in the court, the spokesman said.
