16-year-old arrested over minor girl’s alleged rape

SWABI: A minor girl, aged five, was allegedly raped on Tuesday by a 16-year-old boy in Swabi’s Yar Hussain village.

According to an FIR [First Information Report] registered by the victim’s father at the adjoining police station, his daughter had gone to the mustard fields in the area when she was allegedly raped. The suspected rapist threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident, the FIR read.

The results of the medical examination of the child are still awaited. On Wednesday, however, police had arrested a 16-year-old boy accused of raping the child. Yar Hussain Station House Officer (SHO) Abdul Ali Khan said that further action would be taken after the results of the examination were available.

However, police will seek the suspect’s physical remand after producing the suspect before a local court today.

Cases of sexual assault against minors have come under greater scrutiny in the country following the rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab Amin in Kasur, whose body was recovered from a dump in the city last month. The news gripped the country, resulting in violent protests across the country.
