KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday has said that Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), maintaining its old tradition, has awarded tickets for the Senate election to party workers.

He said this while talking to the media at Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Karachi where he led PPP candidates, their proposers and seconders for filing their nomination papers. He was accompanied by Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani, Sindh PPP President Nisar Khuhro and others.

He said that PPP has selected party candidates on merit and a preference has been given to party workers. “This shows the commitment of the party’s leadership with its workers,” he said and added, “the party has awarded senate tickets to Ms Kirshna of Tharparkar and Anwer Lal Dean from Karachi, both of them belong to the lower middle class of PPP’s minority wing.

Replying to a question, Murad Ali Shah said that the MPAs are respected representatives of the people of their respective constituencies. “There is a wrong impression that offers are being made in exchange of purchasing votes,” he said and further added “he [PTI MPA Khurram Sher Zaman] should tell the media who gave him the offer.”

Murad Ali Shah went on to say that ‘this is just point scoring’, otherwise Senate elections are being held in a democratic way.

“The question is how can they [MQM PMA] serve their people when they are fighting with each other,” he in reply to another question, commenting on MQM-Pakistan’s internal crisis.
