LKPC organises Inspire Pakistan-Knowledge Forum 2018

LAHORE: Lahore Knowledge Park Company (LKPC) on Wednesday organised the Inspire Pakistan-Knowledge Forum. The forum was aimed at initiating and pursuing a meaningful dialogue about Pakistan’s transition towards a 21st-century knowledge-based economy. Participants of the seminar included leading academicians, scientists, researchers, students and frontline socialites of the city.

The forum was thronged with the students from the University of Punjab, University of Engineering Science and Technology, Lahore College for Women University and the University of Central Punjab. Dr Attaur Rahman, UNESCO science laureate and former federal minister for science and technology also participated as the guest of honour. Dr Attaur Rahman addressed the students through an enlightening talk on “Exciting World of Discovery”. Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Vice Chancellor Dr Sohail Naqvi attended the forum as the chief guest.

Inspire Pakistan-Knowledge Forum hosted an insightful panel dialogue which was moderated by LKPC Chief Executive Officer Dr Zubair Iqbal Ghouri, on the potentials and challenges of Pakistan as an emerging knowledge economy. Members to the panel included Simi Raheal, senior researcher in Media and Development Studies, Prof Dr Fazal Ahmed Khalid, UET Vice Chancellor, Khurram Zafar, National Incubation Centre executive director, Marium Mohiuddin, Social Innovation Lab director, Asma Hyder.

The keynote address was given by Dr Athar Osama of the planning commission.

Dr Zubair, LKPC CEO apprised the audience about the ongoing interventions of the Lahore Knowledge Park Company (LKPC). He talked about the international engineering, science and technology university which is going to be established at the Lahore Knowledge Park as a consortium of three Italian Universities. A top-of-the-line European teaching medical hospital is being set up at the Lahore Knowledge Park. Various other Swedish and Chinese universities are also to be set up at the LKP.

There are also high-level prospects of hosting a frontline Turkish Technopark. The ground-breaking ceremony of the Lahore Knowledge Park is expected to be held this year as the construction work has already been started at the project site. Lahore Knowledge Park has launched its Knowledge Ambassadors Programme. Under the program, students from various universities of Lahore are being engaged as knowledge ambassadors to lead the agenda on Pakistan’s evolution as a knowledge economy. The company organised Inspire Pakistan-Knowledge Forum as an initiative under its Knowledge Ambassadors Program.

The LKPC has been set up by the Punjab government under the Higher Education Department to plan and establish fourth generation knowledge and research parks in the province. As a first knowledge park of the company, the LKP is going to be a game changer for the economic progression of Punjab and eventually Pakistan.
