ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued a contempt of court notice to Matiullah Jan, a journalist working for a private news channel.
IHC’s Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, while taking notice of the anti-high court talk show aired on a private television channel, ordered that if Matiullah Jan did not appear in the court for the next hearing, then Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) should cancel the license of Waqt TV for airing the controversial programme.
The court remarked that anchorperson had organised an insulting talk show against the high court, besides, leveling baseless allegations against the court. Jan should appear in the court in person for the next hearing, the court ordered. The court also issued contempt of court notices to the owner and producer of the said television channel.
During the hearing, the court remarked that Jan had started a campaign against the courts and ordered the IHC registrar to send a contempt of court notice to the anchorperson. The court also ordered the persons concerned to submit copies of the transcripts of the talk show, along with video recordings, during the next hearing.
