LONDON: Tehreek-e-Kashmir in the United Kingdom (UK) and Europe mobilised the Kashmiri diaspora and Pakistanis living in numerous European cities on Wednesday to express solidarity with the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day, observed on February 5 every year.
According to details, Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK President Fahim Kayani and Europe President Muhammad Ghalib led rallies with thousands of participants in Lisbon, where the procession moved towards the Portuguese parliament. It merits mention here that the current United Nations (UN) secretary general was the former prime minister of Portugal.
“We remind the people of Europe of their responsibility to uphold human rights. Some of the worst abuses have been committed in IOK and for too long. The world community has turned a blind eye to the suffering of the Kashmiri people. We urge the citizens of Europe and governments to show their solidarity with the sufferings of the Kashmiri people, who are yet to be given their right to self-determination as promised by India and the UN charter,” the participants of the rally said.
Protests were being held in at least 15 European cities as part of Tehreek-e-Kashmir’s ‘Free Kashmir Campaign’ to create international awareness about the ongoing Kashmir dispute.
