NA body urges MoHR to present five-year strategic plan

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Human Rights on Tuesday directed Ministry of Human Rights (MoHR) to present the five-year strategic plan for the development projects in the next meeting.

The committee asked the ministry to give a detailed briefing on helpline project, the criteria for recruitment of staff in the helpline, the advertisement of toll-free number 1099 published in newspapers and telecasted through television channels for public awareness, number of calls received and the action taken on registered complains.

The NA body also urged for the progress of the establishment of National Institute of Human Rights (NIHR), allocation of land for construction of NIHR building and utilisation of budget reserved for it.

Chairing the meeting of the committee, Member National Assembly (MNA) Baber Nawaz Khan asked the ministry to present details of construction of two working women hostels for which the land was allocated more than a decade ago.

The chairman called the heads of all these projects and Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman in the next briefing to brief the committee on how the work on these projects could be completed on a fast-track basis to provide relief to the masses.

The committee also condemned the brutal killing of Naqeebullah in fake police encounter and decided to visit the protest camp for the arrest of the alleged culprit Rao Anwar at the earliest.

Later, at the completion of the meeting, the NA body visited the camp and expressed solidarity with them.
