LAHORE: The fifth school at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), School of Education (SOE), held an information session for its new MPhil Education Leadership and Management programme, along with a free GRE preparatory workshop conducted by Fahim Abbasi, who has successfully developed and delivered preparatory courses that include GRE and GMAT.

Around 500 people were in attendance, with the session being broadcasted live in two more auditoriums on campus to accommodate the large number of participants. The session began with Fahim providing guidelines for approaching the verbal section of the GRE. It included topics such as verbal reasoning and analytical writing, and the participants were given questions and exercises to help them get acquainted with the GRE format.

The GRE Verbal session was followed by an information session of the LUMS SOE MPhil Education Leadership and Management programme. The panel consisted of members of the LUMS administration and faculty including Dr Mariam Chughtai, SOE Associate Dean Dr Faisal Bari, Department of Economics Associate Professor Nuzhat Kamran, SOE director marketing and admissions, and representatives of the varsity’s admissions department.

The information session provided insight into the features of the MPhil programme, focusing on how the programme will enable graduates to lead educational reform in Pakistan, as well as future career prospects. Dr Mariam Chughtai highlighted the structural, cultural, and intellectual challenges Pakistan’s education system is currently facing, and how the SOE is aiming towards bringing educational reforms in these areas.

She also spoke about the SOE’s collaborations with the Punjab government, the KP government, and other external organisations. The information session ended with questions from the audience regarding the MPhil programme, which followed a break during which the attendees asked personalised questions from the panel members, and sign up for their online MPhil applications at the portals set up at the venue.

Fahim Abbasi continued with the GRE preparation workshop after the break and covered the Mathematics section, which included quantitative reasoning and its practice questions.

The event ended with the participants further clarifying their concerns and queries regarding the GRE and the MPhil Education Leadership and Management programme.
