ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday said that he would not be taking anymore suo motu notices until the earlier ones are resolved.

The CJP further said that the Supreme Court (SC) does not want to interfere in executive policies but it will point out issues where it is needed. He asked lawyers to assist in cases pertaining to public interest.

He expressed this while hearing a suo motu case related to human smuggling which was one of the many cases that were taken up by him over the course of the last couple of months.

The major cases include the brutal rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl Zainab, which shook the entire country.

Another major suo motu case taken up by the SC was the extra-judicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud in an alleged ‘police encounter’ in Karachi by former SSP Rao Anwar— the wanted police officer remains at large.

The CJP also took suo motu notices of the murder of Asma Rani and four-year-old Asma in Kohat and Mardan respectively.
