LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed joined Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Sunday, according to sources.
It was reported by the media that the decision was finalised after Mushahid and the ousted prime minister met with each other at Jati Umra on Sunday.
Mushahid, while speaking to a TV channel said that he has accepted Nawaz’s invitation to join the party, adding that nothing had been spoken about the Senate ticket.
Mushahid’s has returned to the PML-N after switching allegiances to General Pervez Musharraf when he dethroned Nawaz in the 1999 military coup.
Maryam Nawaz, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed and Federal Railways Minister Saad Rafique were also present at the meeting.
SAAD WELCOMES MUSHAHID IN PML-N:
Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique welcomed Mushahid Hussain in PML-N, saying his joining would strengthen the party’s struggle for democracy.
The minister, in a statement, said Mushahid was an intellectual and prudent politician, who had joined the PML-N unconditionally.
He said PML-N President Nawaz Sharif had left for Peshawar after hitting a big “sixer” in Lahore and another “sixer” would be witnessed in Peshawar.
Commenting on the statement of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira, the minister questioned as to whether the PPP had accepted its founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s conviction by the courts on the charges of murder.
The party had never endorsed that decision, despite severe differences with the PPP, so its leaders should also think before criticising the PML-N leadership, he added.
MUSHAHID CALLS ON SHEHBAZ:
Later, Mushahid Hussain Syed called on Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and discussed various national, political and other issues related to mutual interest.
The CM welcomed his joining the PML-N and said that this “confidence of Mushahid on our leadership is a proof that the party is the actual representative of the masses” who won the hearts of people with their public service.
