PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police on Saturday confirmed that an accomplice of Mujahid Afridi, the prime suspect in Asma Bibi murder case, confessed to facilitating the suspect’s escape to Saudi Arabia after the murder.
Besides that, the accomplice, identified as Shahzeb, also admitted to supplying the murder weapon, a 30-bore pistol, used by Mujahid to kill Asma, a third-year MBBS student at Ayub Medical College, who had named Afridi as her killer in a video before her death.
Medical student Asma was killed in Kohat last month after she allegedly refused a marriage proposal from Mujahid.
Police also confiscated the motorcycle used by the suspect and brother during the crime and the car Mujahid used for his escape.
Shahzeb has been sent on a two-week judicial remand after his one-day physical remand ended on Sunday. He was arrested by Kohat police on Saturday.
One of the accused in the murder case, Sadiqullah, told the Kohat police during interrogation that driver Shahzeb had aided and facilitated in escape after committing the offence.
Sadiqullah was nominated in first information report (FIR) on January 27, 2018. He revealed during interrogation that Shahzeb had helped Mujahid.
Last week, reports surfaced that Mujahid had fled to Saudi Arabia, with police approaching the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to bring him back through the Interpol.
