MULTAN: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Saturday that the authority of the court will be fully established once it throws former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf into jail for contempt like it did with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nehal Hashmi.
Hashmi has been imprisoned for one month and fined Rs50,000 for contempt by the Supreme Court. He cannot hold a public office for the next five years as well.
Speaking to the media, Iqbal said that the biggest contempt of court was committed by Musharraf. He said that the court has been unable to summon Musharraf to the court— summoning political workers in contempt of court will not make much of a difference.
Two PML-N leaders Tallal Chaudhry and Daniyal Aziz have been served notices of contempt of court by the SC.
He added that nobody in the country thought that the disqualification decision taken against the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was based on justice.
He further said that the entire party is now united on Shehbaz Sharif’s nomination as the next prime minister.
He said that Pakistan’s economy had visibly improved during the tenure of Nawaz Sharif, adding that it was Nawaz who finalised the multi-billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor, which was nothing but a piece of paper till July 2013,
