The Supreme Court on Thursday had ordered the re-arrest of Sharukh Jatoi, Siraj Talpur and others involved in the murder of a youth Shahzeb Khan. Acting on court orders, police arrested Jatoi and others from court premises and ordered the authorities concerned to put the name of the accused on the exit control list (ECL).
The Shahzeb murder case was reopened after members of the civil society filed a petition with the apex court against the Sindh High Court (SHC) decision that allowed the accused to walk free. In response, the apex court took a suo moto action and overwrote the SHC order. In addition, a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar also directed the SHC to form a bench in this connection and decide the case in a maximum time of two months.
Jatoi and other accused in the Shahzeb murder case were released on bail from custody on December 23, 2017, after Shahzeb’s father submitted an affidavit in support of the bail application filed by the accused.
