Says Sharif brothers will be in Adiala jail before 2018 general elections
LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has blamed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led Punjab government for removing its banners put up in various parts of the city for its forthcoming public gathering.
PPP Punjab spokesperson Sajjad Anwar said the ruling party is scared of the PPP power show and is using such tactics to create obstructions in its way.
“The PML-N will get nothing from such tactics and the Takht-e-Lahore will see the power of the public on February 5,” he said.
PPP Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira said the PPP will hold an enormous rally on February 5. The Sharif brothers should know that they will not be winning the general elections of 2018, instead will be in the Adiala jail before the elections, he said.
“Nowhere in the world are such negative tactics used in a democratic setup, but the Sharif brothers are using these because they think that the whole country is their personal fiefdom,” Kaira said.
“It is a matter of shame for the ruling party that the banners and other hangings are being torn apart in various parts of the city,” he added.
Kaira also said that Nawaz Sharif has gone amuck while adding that every citizen should be provided with his or her rights and it is the PPP’s right to hold rallies. He said that unfortunately the Sharif brothers have learnt nothing from the past and are resorting to such poor tactics to malign the opposition. The former prime minister visited Karachi for a public gathering and the PPP-led Sindh government created no hurdles to affect his political activities, he said.
The Lahore administration at the behest of the Punjab government and Sharif brothers issued a conditional no-objection certificate (NOC) to the PPP for holding the public rally. The administration has imposed weird restrictions on the PPP including one that bars it from criticising state institutions like the army and the judiciary, said Kaira.
“Nawaz Sharif is accusing the judiciary and hurling abuses at it. He is threatening to dismember Pakistan, but no one is stopping him,” he added. He also said that the judiciary gave some of the toughest decisions in the PPP’s tenure, but the party never said anything against the judiciary.
“Nawaz Sharif has launched a verbal attack on the judiciary and is pressuring the lower courts,” he alleged.
PPP Punjab Secretary General and central leader Chaudhry Manzoor said the Sharif brothers are afraid of the party’s popularity in Punjab after their ruthless tenure of 10 years in the province.
“They are trying to target the PPP in every possible way, but they will not succeed in their nefarious designs,” he added.
It may be noted that the PPP announced to hold a public meeting on Kashmir Day in Lahore to express solidarity with the oppressed of the Indian occupied Kashmir and to show the party’s political strength in Punjab. PPP leader and former president Asif Ali Zardari had directed the party leadership in Punjab to make arrangements for the public meeting at the historical Mochi gate, which comes following the flop show at the joint opposition protest led by the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on January 17. Central leaders of the PPP would address the rally.
Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday reached Lahore and is personally monitoring the arrangements for the public gathering.
