Another swine flu suspected case surfaces in Karachi

KARACHI: A suspected swine flu case was reported in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) Karachi here on Friday and the patient was said to be a staffer of the healthcare facility.

The patient, a 26-year-old woman, was suffering from symptoms for a week and she remained under observation in the hospital for the last three days.

The patient was moved to Civil Hospital Karachi CHK) when her condition deteriorated. She is now under treatment in an isolation ward at the CHK.

CHK Medical Superintendent Dr Taufiq confirmed that a suspected swine flu patient was admitted in their isolation ward of the hospital and her throat swab sample was sent to the laboratory for an investigation to determine the disease.

He said the patient was also suffering from diabetes.

More than 100 patients have already been diagnosed with seasonal influenza or H1N1 viral flu patients in private hospitals of the city during one and half month.

This disease is caused by influenza virus. Fever, sore throat, flu, headache, body ache, cough and upper respiratory tract infection are the main symptoms of this disease.
