LAHORE: In an apparent reference to a well-known expression ‘Nero fiddled while Rome burned’, the Federal Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique said Wednesday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was busy playing the fiddle while Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) continued to burn.

The minister said in a tweet that the ruling party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) should admit its bad governance as its police had failed to control crime in the province.

In a statement, the minister questioned the silence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the remarks of the Supreme Court (SC) about police failure in the KP. “PTI leaders never miss an opportunity to taunt others on the remarks of judges but are observing silence now,” he added.

The apex court on Tuesday had observed that the KP police had completely failed to nab the culprits involved in the abduction, rape and murder of a minor girl Asma in Mardan. He said that the failure of KP police in capturing the killers of Mashaal, Asma and Asima were examples of bad governance in the province.

Rafique also claimed that the PTI government had failed to establish a single teaching hospital during its four-and-a-half-year-long term in KP. “They utilise the expertise of Punjab forensic laboratory and hurl abuses at Punjab at the same time,” the PML-N leader remarked, questioning efforts of the incumbent PTI and former Awami National Party (ANP) governments in KP in connection with establishing a medical institute like the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).

He alleged that the relationship of Imran Khan with KP revolved around the illegal utilisation of government resources. “Players of blame game (PTI) never admitted their failure or poor performance,” he concluded.
