KARACHI: Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) Karachi Dean of Faculty of Life Sciences Dr Kamran Azim on Thursday said that if sufficient funds and proper training is provided, we may also establish the most modern forensic DNA testing laboratory here in Karachi
He said this while addressing to an open house session held at university campus last evening for the guidance of students and their parents seeking admission in the new semester at MAJU.
He emphasized that there is a need to promote the education of Genetic Engineering, Biotechnology and Forensic Science in Sindh.
He expressed these views after the Supreme Court of Pakistan Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar voiced concerns over not establishing a standard DNA testing laboratory in Sindh, Baluchistan and KP.
He said that realizing the importance of this, MAJU had recently launched BS-Biosciences and MS-Bioinformatics degree programs.
Dr Kamran said that DNA technology has become very important these days because people killed due to natural disasters, bomb blasts, traffic accidents or as a result of criminal activities may be identified easily through their hair, nails, spits, sweats, dress and body touching using the latest technology.
He said that by taking full advantage of the recently established labs, students will be able to check and analyze the bacterium in water and food items, can conduct genetic engineering and DNA test experiments.
Dr Kamran added that upon the completion of Biosciences education, students will be in a position to get jobs in pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, laboratories and agriculture sector.
Addressing the gathering, Computing & Engineering Associate Dean, Dr Asim Imdad, said that our faculty in consist upon highly qualified teachers having practical experience
of working with industry. He said that computer has become an essential part of every life now that is why we have started Computer System Engineering degree program at MAJU, enabling our youth to show excellence in this field globally.
Associate Dean, Business Administration & Social Sciences Faculty Dr Shujaat Mubarak said that besides the importance of Science and technologies these days, Finance, Accounting, HR, Supply Chain, Projects Management and Social Sciences subjects still have their own value.
He said that students of our BS-Accounting & Finance, upon the completion of their education, will be in a position to fulfil their dreams to become chartered accountants or chief financial officer.
