ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday congratulated the Supreme Court (SC) for disqualifying former PML-N senator Nehal Hashmi for “abusing and threatening the senior judiciary and their families”.
The apex court on early Thursday morning had announced its verdict on Senator Nehal Hashmi’s contempt case and sentenced him to one-month imprisonment besides, fining him Rs 50,000. The court also announced Hashmi’s disqualification from holding public office for a period of five years under Article 63 (1)(g) of the constitution.
Imran Khan, in the meanwhile, took to social media and said that the whole nation stands by the courts and judiciary and that the two should not be “weighed down by the contemptuous and abusive behaviour of Sharifs and their darbaris(courtiers)”.
The PTI chairman also took a jibe at Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif from PML-N saying that the party is now petitioning the SC for an early hearing of the case against Asif. He termed the foreign minister as a “grave security risk” and alleged that Asif posses a foreign domicile, works for a foreign concern, receives a salary from abroad and has foreign bank accounts but has not declared any of these.
