Wolfsburg get Mehmedi from Leverkusen

BERLIN: VfL (Verein für Leibesübungen) Wolfsburg have signed attacking player Admir Mehmedi from Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen on a contract until 2022, both clubs said on Wednesday while Borussia Dortmund has reportedly taken Michy Batshuayi on loan from Chelsea.

No financial details were given but the permanent transfer of Mehmedi has been estimated at 8 million euros (9.9 million dollars) and could rise to 10 million euros through possible additional payments.

“Admir perfectly suits our requirements. He can be used in various positions in attack, knows the Bundesliga and will help us immediately,” Wolfsburg sports director Olaf Rebbe said.

Mehmedi, 26, is the third signing for mid-table Wolfsburg during the January transfer window which ends in Germany at 1700 GMT, joining Josip Brekalo and Renato Steffen. He has played 122 top-flight games for Leverkusen and Freiburg, scoring 22 goals.

According to the BBC meanwhile, Dortmund will shortly loan signing of forwarding Batshuayi on transfer deadline day ahead of the window in Germany closing at 1700 GMT.

The 24-year-old Batshuayi will join Dortmund until the end of the season, pending a medical, as a likely replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is set to join Arsenal.

Mainz has cut their losses on Danish attacking midfielder Viktor Fischer, who signed in summer on a contract to 2022, so he can join Copenhagen. The transfer fee was not disclosed.
