A video that surfaced on Facebook showing a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior lawmaker “groping” a minor girl caused widespread public outrage on the social media platform on Wednesday.
The said lawmaker was identified by the media as PML-N Senator Nisar Muhammad who belongs to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and is a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights.
The incident was connected to the various recent cases of child abuse in the country by the social media users.
The video footage is from a protest at Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area in relation to the alleged extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud where the lawmaker was present as part of a Senate delegation which also happened to represent the Senate’s Standing Committee for Human Rights, led by Senator Nasreen Jalil and comprised senators Farhatullah Baber and Shahi Syed among others.
The parliamentarians were joined by Sindh Assembly Speaker Aga Siraj Durrani and the amir of Jamaat Islami, Sirajul Haq, after which they all met with the organizers of the jirga at Sohrab Goth.
The video that is a minute and a half long, shows Nisar Muhammad continuously groping the minor girl standing next to him during his speech, however, none of the attendees at the protest, authorities or other senators objected or attempted to stop Nisar’s actions.
