NAB not responsible for delay in Karachi safe city project

KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Wednesday sought a report from NAB Karachi regarding the alleged media reports of objections of NAB on the continuation of Karachi Safe City Project in the metropolitan.

The chairman also sought an explanation over a non-reply of a letter written by the Sindh’s IT department to the bureau in 2015. He said that no hurdles or corruption would be tolerated regarding the safe city project, including the installation of security cameras in Karachi.

As per the report of the NAB, a complaint was received by NAB Karachi regarding misuse of authority and violation of the Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) rules.

After the complaint verification, it was found that the complaint was found correct and the anti-graft bureau had asked SPPRA on December 09, 2016, that the feasibility and tendering of consultancy services under the project should be cancelled as it was against the rules and re-tendering should be made under intimation to the NAB.
