Governor takes notice of Swabi varsity’s irregularities: report

PESHAWAR: Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra – Chancellor of the University of Swabi – has asked for an investigation report on the irregularities of the university to be submitted within 15 days, reported a local English daily.

University of Swabi VC Dr Imtiaz Ali Khan is allegedly involved in illegal practices and has appointed at least 70 people without the syndicate’s approval.

According to sources, the syndicate members – Syed Akhtar Ali Shah and Dr Nasir Jamal – and the HEC representative – raised serious concerns over the fact that 70 people from Grade-1 to Grade 16 did not pass any exams that were held under Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency. A new department was launched by the VC after acquiring the tobacco market.

The university’s rating has decreased due to many posts of professors, associate professors, assistant professors and lecturers as well as registrar and treasurer lying vacant for long periods of time. However, there were no advertisements for the appointments made by the VC, which is not permissible under merit and the university’s rules.
