Eight of a family killed in Kurram Agency landmine explosion

KURRAM AGENCY: At least eight people of a family, including three women, were killed and another injured as a result of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in village Maqbal in Ghauz Garhi area of Upper Kurram Agency on Tuesday.

According to reports, the family was on its way to attend funeral prayers when the blast occurred.

The officials in political administration at Parachinar, headquarter of Kurram Agency, have confirmed the incident.

According to officials, tribesmen in the area shifted the dead bodies and injured people to a local hospital.

A number of soldiers and civilians have lost their lives in IED blasts in the agency.

Four security officials, including a captain, were martyred and three injured in an IED blast in Kharlachi, Kurram Agency, in October last year.

Three officials were killed instantly while three were injured, according to the political administration of the agency.

So far no one claimed responsibility for the latest IED explosion in the area. However, tribesmen believe that it was an act of terror.

The Ghauz Garhi area, situated just on Pak Afghan border in Upper Kurram Agency, is known for frequent US drone attacks. Many terrorists were killed in these attacks. Pakistani authorities have shown serious concern over US drone attacks and lodged a strong-worded protest with the US officials.
