ISLAMABAD: The cameras installed in the city under safe city project has provided assistance and support in finalising as well concluding 1,150 cases of assorted nature of theft, snatching, kidnapping, accidents and murder since its inauguration on June 6, 2016.
According to police, over 1,890 cameras have been installed and the rest of 104 are being installed. He said that 81 officials of Islamabad police are performing their duties under this project while a case for approval of 309 executive and ministerial posts is under process. After meeting all necessary formalities, the appointment of these vacant posts will be made promptly, he added.
The source also said that Islamabad safe city project was inaugurated on June 6, 2016, and since then, various operations are being run by Islamabad police and Rescue-15 service in command and control centre. He added that the project is a strategic asset, and infrastructure is being used effectively for monitoring and surveillance of capital.
Police stations are being informed accordingly, regarding any suspicious person, vehicles, motorbikes etc. via wireless and other sources, he added.
To make the project more effective, the police official said that various activities including movement of people as well as anti-social elements are being monitored round the clock. He said that a proactive strategy for providing better policing to the general public of Islamabad for their security has been adopted, adding that IT experts have been deployed at important points and wings to control terrorism as well as crime and to provide better services to the public.
He further said that personnel deployed at various sites of the project are being briefed properly to check the activities of the visitors entering Islamabad. He hoped for further effective use of this project to check crimes in the capital in future.
