NIMUN 2018 ends on a high note

ISLAMABAD: NUST International Model United Nations (NIMUN’18) was held at the university’s main campus from January 26 to 29.

The conference commenced with an impressive opening ceremony, graced by UNDP Country Office Deputy Director Naoko Takasu’s presence. NUST Pro-Rector (Academics) Dr Asif Raza, and NUST Business School Principal/Dean Dr Naukhez Sarwar were also present at the occasion.

The debate this year involved both current scenarios and future projections for consideration in order to create simulations, which tackled issues ranging from inequality to discussing socially responsible initiatives for the world. As many as fourteen committees were simulated, which included popular simulations such as the united nations security council (UNSC), the disarmament and international security committee (DISEC), the social, humanitarian and cultural committee (SOCHUM) and the united nations development programme (UNDP).

Specialised and newer simulations were also put up such as press corp., united nations office on drugs and crime (UNODC), the 6th committee (legal), a special summit on futuristic technology (SS-FT), UNHCR, and international crisis council (ICC).The conference also featured a diplomatic meet where reputed professionals from various walks of life attended the conference as part of a delegate-diplomat interaction session.

During the course of NIMUN, several social events were held, including Global Highway – an amalgamation of countries united on one route; a carnival and musical evening featuring local EDM producer DJ Toshi and the widely acclaimed singer Ali Azmat.
