HYDERABAD: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Associations (FAPUAA) on Monday rejected the appointment of Dr Asim Hussain as Higher Education Commission (HEC) Sindh Chairman, and demanded the banning of re-posting of retired teachers on key posts.

Addressing a news conference here at Hyderabad Press Club, the Chairman FAPUAA Sindh Chapter Dr Naimatullah Leghari and Secretary Mehoun Khan Leghari have termed the appointment of Dr Asim Hussain as chairman HEC Sindh as against the passed resolution of Sindh Assembly.

They said that Dr Asim Hussain is currently facing trials on charges of corruption and his appointment cannot be accepted. They demanded the appointment of any senior and capable academician on the said post.

They also demanded the removal of non-PhD Vice-Chancellors of the universities and to impose a ban on re-posting of retired employees in universities.

They also termed the Sindh Universities Act 2013 as an attack on the autonomy of universities and demanded that all higher learning institutions of the province should be made autonomous with the removal of directly appointed Registrars, controller of examinations and auditors by the Sindh Government.
