LAHORE: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal in a press conference on Saturday once again mentioned that the PML-N has an absolute consensus over Shehbaz Sharif as the party’s candidate for the position of the prime minister (PM) in the upcoming general elections.
Ahsan Iqbal gave this statement when a reporter asked who will be the PML-N nominating for the prime minister’s position.
This is not the first time that a senior member of the current ruling party has expressed his agreement over Shehbaz Sharif as the future PM. Earlier in December 2017, the former PM Nawaz Sharif also told the senior party members that the Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif would be the party’s candidate for the premiership in the upcoming general elections. The former PM also said that Shehbaz had never disappointed him or the party, and had risen to prominence because of his hard work and performance.
The senior PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, on numerous occasions, has also backed Shehbaz as the future PM. In a recent informal chat with reporters, the former interior minister said that the PML-N as political party is going through a very critical period, and the decision to nominate Shehbaz as a candidate for the post of the PM in the 2018 general elections is a positive move, provided that he is allowed to operate of his free will.
