Senators meet Aasma’s family to offer condolences

MARDAN: Senators Nasreen Jalil and Shahi Syed on Thursday visited the family of the deceased minor girl Aasma in Gojat Garhi area to offer their condolences on the rape and murder of their daughter.

Aasma went missing on January 13 from the Gujjar Garhi area and was discovered dead the next day. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Inspector General (IG) of Police Salahuddin Mehsud said that the post-mortem report showed that the girl was sexually assaulted and was strangled to death.

The relevant DIG and DPO also briefed Jalil and Saeed on the case while they were at the Pakhtunkhuwa House.

Talking to the media, Senator Jalil said that awareness campaigns should be run in the media and educational institutions as children’s security is at stake. He also said that parents need to inform children as to how to deal with any such situations.

Senator Syed further said that the DNA report will eventually confirm whether the deceased minor was subjected to sexual assault or not. He said that they had visited the victim’s family to assure them that the government is with them.
